Ethos

Our aim is to bring good quality products to the Old High Street and where possible to showcase local goods. We aim to supply a large cross-section of foods to meet many health, dietry and lifestyle needs. As well as stocking a variety of health consious goods we are also able to offer a broad collectio of experience and passion for health consious goods, and our resident Medical Herbalist, Lynda Jones, is qualified to give advice.

Our business model focuses on

  • supporting producers in their communities (fairtrade)
  • supporting local producers
  • planet friendly (Rainforest Aliance, minimal or biodegradable packaging)
  • sustainable production of food and household items
  • animal cruelty free
  • wholefood and health

We’re not perfect, but we’re actively working on carrying out our business with integrity in line with our values!

How we started

The shop was conceived and established by Tessa and Beth in 2017, along with invaluable help from loyal friends, with a vision to bring the food they wanted to buy and eat to Folkestone!

Tessa had previously run the cafe above Canterbury Wholefoods, and Beth is a Yoga teacher with a particular interest in Yogi teas. They ran the shop successfully for 3 years, with the help of some committed staff, friends and colleagues. When Beth moved away from Folkestone in 2021 the core group of those involved created a Limited Liability Partnership, so that the shop could continue to serve the community with a structure that enabled the long-standing members of staff to join as partners.

The work of running the shop (not just serving) is shared by all of us alongside our other commitments. We all value this collaborative approach.

Finances

We chose to establish the business as an LLP so that the partners could have a say in how it is run and share the governance and accountability, as provided for in the structure of an LLP. Although this is a for-profit structure, we intend to invest any extra profit made back into the development of the business, the better to serve our community.
